Getting Started

Postby wittmebaa » 06. December 2010 22:18

Just downloaded and installed xampp.

Long term Id like to be able to develop and apply php, MySQL, HTML, CSS on a server domain operated by my son (space he is renting from godaddy).

Is there a getting started place where I can do some reading and start designing/developing some pages?

I need all the step-stones for what files go where, how to get a database on the server, etc.

I should have been a little more precise and clear.

I have built pages using HTML and CSS. I use FTP (Firezilla) all the time and have lots of pages, images and css on an existing site.

What I need is the process for creating a DB, moving (if that is appropriate) to the server, implementing Apache (if appropriate) and connect with MySQL along with .php pages. I have no clue where to start with this part.

The webspace belongs to my son on GoDaddy and Im quite sure it will allow MySQL and other read/write actions (may need to sign up but does exist).

I was of the impression that Apache would allow much of this to be developed on a PC and make it look just like being on a live server. Is that correct?

This is what I have found and seems just what I needed. Still have lots of questions, but will finish working thru this example and see what it covers.

===========

When I try to create the db, I am receiving this error - I have typed the url, copied it and clicked the link in the PDF all yielding an error. While doing the installation there were lots of questions which I may not have answered properly due to lack of knowledge.

I did have apache and mysql running at the time of this error.

Figured it out. Here is the problem. The link uses upper case on words which does not work.

It reads: http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/
Should read: http://localhost/phpmyadmin/
