Unable to access using IP address

Postby ajaykumarmeher » 23. November 2010 18:10

Hello,

I have installed Xampp successfully on my computer. I am able to access my site uisng http://localhost/site

However unable to use using the IP address. I have a static IP and when I try to access http://192.168.1.1/site it says Page can not be displayed.

This was working fine with WAMP and Uniserver, however in Xampp I am having issue.

Please help me in this regard.

I don't think something is right here.

192.168.1.1 would NORMALLY be the INTERNAL address of a LAN's router.

Normally that is the LAN's 'gateway address'.

On the local network the IP address should be the LOCAL IP address of the machine XAMPP is loaded on. - such as 192.168.1.24 - for instance.

Okay I agreed, Let's assume the IP address to whatever u decide. I am simply unable to access any of my sites using Ip address.

Only localhost and 127.0.0.1 works for me.

OK -

Can you access the site on a LOCAL IP??

If not - probably a firewall or security software issue.

If you can access on network, but not from remote -

well there are TWO things that can stand in the way of that -

The same observation about firewalls & security suites

also could be

A problem with router port-forwarding.

You also kinda failed to mention what version of Windows and XAMPP -

Dear John, as I said apart from localhost and 127.0.0.1 I am unable to access the site hosted on Xampp.

The version of XAMPP is the latest I obtained from this site.

I cant acess it from any computer over the network.

And the fact tht everything works fine on WAmp and Uniserver rules out the possibility of involvement of firewall

I had the same qn posted here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=36387 over a year ago but no result to that too.

Can U let me know if u can acces it. I hv tried it on my home pC and have same issue. SO it seems to be incapability of XAMPP.

If I cant do this I have to remove and throw away XAMPP for ever.

Well, I can't speak for your installation - but I (personally) have installed in now on over a dozen machines (and USB Sticks) and it has always worked.

I looked at your old post, and I have the same comment that was true then - something is blocking Port 80.

Is this a peer to peer Windows Network?

A firewall that allows WAMP - would usually be tuned to the installation location (path) of THAT copy of httpd.exe, but not the copy installed with XAMPP (which persumably would be in a different location) - so the logic you propose is not true.

you should check whatever firewall software it is, and make sure there are exceptions on Port 80, the right subnets, and the XAMMP copy of httpd.exe.

No it is not a peer to peer windows network, but a large corporate domain with AD.

I am not sure what might b blocking port 80 and where and what should I look for in firewall?

Almost impossible to say - Find out if they are deploying any Windows Proxies such as ISA or Edge Transport Server - that's way, way out there. It could also very easily be a corporate router/firewall (like SonicWall) issue You need to talk to your geeks.

Good Luck
