help with mail server

Hi there

i have been using XAMPP for a lill while now and had no real problems
but now i want to run a Mail server so i can drop my web provider on the
net...

i downloaded MDaemon seems to work okay and i have all the options i need
hoever i am stuck at one point.

I would like to make it so i can type http://www.mydomain.co.uk/webmail to accsess my
web mail when i am not home or to one of the accounts that i do not have set up
on my laptop....

does any one know how i can achive this

Forget about that - you definately need a public provider on the net, because even if you succeed in configuring and running your own private mail server, most public email pop/imap server will drop incoming emails from your IP, as such IPs are blacklisted due to SPAM reasons.

Option A
You will need a mailserver that EITHER has a built-in webmail interface OR one that can be integrated with one - I use hMail and you can make it work with Roundcube. It looks like someone thas done the work for Mercury as well - This is NOT Trivial Pursuit.

Option B (much easier)
You will setup Mercury (or hMail) for POP and then use a Webmail interface like Web2Mail (its free)

well acctualy that is not the answer to my qestion iff you read it

it has a built in webmail

but instead of using the IP and a port No i want to use the aformentioned address
www.mydomain.co.uk/webmail or somin simaler
i am using axigen rarther easy to set up and nice looking i think murcry is far to
hard to use for a noob like me

At the risk of oversimplifying - you need a registered domain that points to a static IP (or one of the paid services from DynDNs or No-IP) and a bit of work with the documentation for that mail server. You may also need an Alias setting in your Apache conf files.

See what is in \xammp\apache\conf\httpd-xampp.conf for examples of this.
