test mail fails - HELP

Postby murphygoo » 09. October 2010 05:52

i have done the reload to xampp 1.7.3
I have updated all files as follows:

added lines to the host file
127.0.0.1 www.internationalsaws.com #for browser access
127.0.0.1 mail.internationalsaws.com #for mail access
127.0.0.1 internationalsaws.com #for mercury mail server

apache, httpd.cof file
deleted out and added;
#ServerName Localhost:80
ServerHost www.internationalsaws.com:80

Edit Mercury Mail/mercury.ini file
Delete out and add;
#myname localhost
myname internationalsaws.com

added below the words "localhost.com : localhost.com (in the file there is no ".com" after "localhost" ?)
internationalsaws.com : internationalsaws.com

click on the Mercury Mail link on the left-panel,
I enter the following to send a test message
sender - postmaster@internationalsaws.com
Recipient - admin@internationalsaws.com

test message
send

i get the next screen that says:
test message fails!!!!!!!!!!!!

any ideas what i am missing??
thanks!!

thank you

probably a lot

Did you register an MX record in your nameservers?

Did you create accounts in Mercury?

I'm unsure why you wish to run your own mailserver, but it really isn't necessary to use sendmail on a XAMPP server. Its a fair amount of effort to get it all working right, particulalrly if you aren't familiar with mailservers and all the fine points of not making your mailserver a SPAM-forwarder.

Good Luck

hi,
considering this go round i can not even get the simple test mail to work, i am not sure. I just follow the Zen cart book, set up, etc. But over upgrades and time I have been away, things may have changed in new version setups, etc.

I just reloaded (format) my laptop to make sure its not the problem. its not. But if I can not even figure this test mail out, I most likely search awhile longer before punting, :)

I just posted another, stating the test mail error from the get go. Maybe some one will reply.

Thank you!

Its a DNS record that indicates which mailservers are to be used for the Domain (and their priority).

Its very well explained in this article

http://www.petri.co.il/configure_mx_rec ... raffic.htm

you ARE trying to set up a mailserver, right?

One of the problems with these kind of projects it assumes you know a fair amount about the Interet's infrastructure.

Here's a tutorial on setting up Mercury

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QnfF64rA78

teh basics are the same for all mailservers, BTW - they have to work together - that's what SMTP, POP, and IMAP are all about -interoperability.

Good Luck

JonB,
well yes, but for testing only. Thanks you for the link, for it will come in handy at some point.
I have configured mercury with a demo@localhost.com / demo@localhost / 127.0.0.1 , etc..... (watched a video)
all worked, mercury showed it sent , but never got the email (outlook). Now, when i had to reboot, outlook shows an error when trying to send/rec. emails from demo@localhost.com.

Thanks for the help. I'll keep working at it. oh i see you linked a video, cool, i watch right now :)
