xampp installation on portable drive

Postby Ananth » 21. August 2010 18:11

I installed xampp on my portable drive at the root(G:). Apache starts with out issue. However when I type "http://localhost" in my browser window just getting a blank page.xampp start page does not load.No error message.Tried it in IE,Chrome,Firefox.Same result. After going through various posts tried changing the port number in "httpd.conf" file, uninstalled Norton to check if firewall was the issue. No luck.Same result.

Request help in solving the issue.

Thanks.

hosts file path is "[Labrador.ini]/[Windows System]/Drivers/etc"
Entries in the file are:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

what's in the Apache error log?
(OS 10013)An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access
permissions. : make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
:?:

Hope this answers your query. Port check in the Apache control panel shows

Service port status
Apach(http) 80 process;system

All the other ports in the port check are free.

Thanks and hope you have an answer for the issue.I am still stuck.

You already have (another) Apache up and running or you are using Skype

Thanks. The problem got solved. The solution was rather simple. i had changed the port numbers to 8080 and then 5354. By a rare coincidence both the ports were being used. I found this out when I ran "crrports utility". I changed the port number to 444 and typed http://localhost:444 in the browser. It opened the xampp start page.

I had earlier installed Apache on the c drive and uninstalled it before I installed xampp on the portable drive. May be this is the reason for port 80 being in use.

Anyway the issue is resolved. Thanks for the support.
