phpmyadmin doens work but all the rest works fine !?!

I am on Linux Mandriva (kernel 2.6.24.7-desktop586-2mnb ; mandriva 2008.1).
I have installed the last version of xampp 1.7.3.
Connection with localhost works : the home page appears.
Click on "phpinfo" works
Installation of a local wiki (dokuwiki) works fine : I can connect and surf
But when I am clicking on phpmyadmin (to create a data base), here is the error message (in french and translated by google) :
phpMyAdmin - Erreur
Erreur lors du démarrage de la session, veuillez vérifier les erreurs indiquées par PHP ou dans le fichier témoin du serveur web, et configurer PHP correctement.

In english :
Error starting the session, please check errors given by PHP or in the cookie file of the web server, and configure PHP properly.

What can I check ? I do not know where is the log file for php... I do not know which package I can check to verify compatibility
