Hi, i have been using XAMPP for my php learning for a few months and it has no problem.

I just encounter this problem that my http://localhost/XAMPP is unable to load after i have activate the apache program ( that is i click the admin button at the control panel). I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and even try installing the lite version ( i use the full version initially) but it still has the same problem.

I do a xp restore point to an earlier time and it still has the same problem. It just give me a blank page with warning of a connection problem and the address bar showing http://116.14.60.236/, instead of the usual http://localhost/XAMPP page.

however, i can open up the http://localhost/phpmyadmin/. This is very strange.

May i know what went wrong with my system? Thanks in advanced for any help rendered.

I suggest you look in two places to start:

First - in your apache/conf/httpd.conf, check the ServerName line. What's on that line?

Second - in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file (open with a text editor) check the host definitions to see if there is one associated with 116.14.60.236 -- perhaps one mapping it to localhost
(like so)
116.14.60.236 locahost

BTW -- I'm not sure an XP restore point can help with XAMPP, as its none of its components are registered Windows applications. Only the XAMPP installer itself is registered with Windows. All the other components are run as batch files or the XAMPP Control Panel - (the programs are run through their CLI - Command Line Interface) That's also why there are no Add/Remove Programs entries for Apache. My SQL, FileZilla and Mercury - they aren't really installed.

Good Luck

it says: ServerName localhost:80

Second - in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file (open with a text editor) check the host definitions to see if there is one associated with 116.14.60.236 -- perhaps one mapping it to localhost
(like so)
116.14.60.236 locahost

i dunno, but this is what i see when i open the host file ( there is another one called host.bak, but i dun think you mean this)

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

So.. any changes i need to do or any remedies? Thanks..

Those are both the way they should be (sorry, no fix there :( )

Is the only problem when you try to load the 'XAMPP Page' with all the XAMPP configuration information?

If so, try replacing C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp\index.php with a fresh copy from the original XAMPP download. (that's the page that actually runs the XAMPP configuration page)

You might also try searching within the XAMPP folder for that string -- 116.14.60.236 -- with the Windows Search tool and using the option All Files and folders, and put the IP address in the "A word or phrase in the file". Make sure 'Search subfolders' is checked. (that tool is not 100% reliable as it is aimed at finding words - but it is worth trying)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled again. Same problem. I check the ip address and it is my service provider's address.
i dun think is my service provider problem as i have a laptop running xampp apache and it working fine. going through the same wifi access. I think there is something wrong with my pc.

There is no way i can get it work. My sql load up nicely. but not the apache.

is it my firefox is blocking the access?
