I have just downloaded MySQL and Xampp and although none of the instructions are very clear I receive this error messge. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to progress please
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

XAMPP has its own MySQL, just make sure it runs.
Check out phpmyadmin settings. Change authorization type to 'cookie' or 'http'.

Can you please explain how to change authorization. This is all new to me but despertely need a searchable database on my site.

You mean path to phpmyadmin? It's usually phpMyAdmin folder in XAMPP directory.
