Postby jay007 » 20. May 2010 21:21

I have installed XAMPP "sucessfully" but when i go to http://localhost/ i continually get a HTTP 403 Forbidden - web site declined to show this page. I have installed and uninstalled a # of times and I have the same error. If anyone can help i would greatly apperciate it.

Have you looked in the Apache error log to see if a more specific error was generated?

Just open the error.log file with your Windows editor (or Wordpad) or any other plain-text editor (like your php-editor if you have one)
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

couple questions:

What version of Windows?

Where specifically did you install XAMPP?

I think it would be useful to post the full verbatim error message you got. There should be something like this:

Authentication required!
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the URL "/secure/index.html". You either supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

In case you are allowed to request the document, please check your user-id and password and try again.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 401

Apache/2.2.14 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8l mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.3.1

Last thought:
You didn't create or paste in any .htaccess files into the root of htdocs?

Good Luck

I am running windows XP Pro version 5.1.

I installed Xampp onto my C:/xampp

the error i get is :
The website declined to show this webpage
HTTP 403
Most likely causes:
•This website requires you to log in.

What you can try:
Go back to the previous page.

More information

This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
For more information about HTTP errors, see Help

And in regards to creating or pasting any files into the root of htdocs - negative. i have not gotten past this error yet to do anything else.

one other thing, whenever i start or restart MySqladmin automatically comes on with the error :
aCCESS VIOLATION AT ADDRESS 1000A1F7 in moduel 'LIBMYSQL.dll'cread as address 00000000.

Thank you in advance for trying to help.

disregard my "error" message from above! THAT is when I try to view http://localhost/... SORRY!

The error when i try to open error log is:
Windows cannot open this file

File: error.log

To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer what do you want to do?
Choosing "Use the web service to find the appropriate program I get the following -

File Association

Windows has the following information about this file type/ This page will help you find software needed to open your file.

File Type: Unknown

Description: Windows does not recognize this file type.

you may search the following Web site for related software and information:

Jay

You need to tell Windows to open the file with Notepad or another text editor (NOT MS Word).

you do that by browsing to the notepad.exe file.
