Apache won't start - it says busy - see next comment ...

What Windows version are you on? Are you logged on as an administrator?

It sounds like a Windows Script Host error.

It could be a registry problem or perhaps scripting is disabled.

Could be other things as wll, LOL (this is a guesstimate)

Thank you for the responce. I am on Vista. Installed it on another machine using XP with no problems.
Next I will disable McAfee and see if it is taking a port.
In the meantime will search the topics you provided.

I also had the same error on Vista.

For my problem, I found the solution here:
http://forums.devx.com/showthread.php?t=5643

I just ran these 2 commands in an administrator command prompt:
regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll
regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll

and then setup_xampp.bat worked.
