Trouble with installation

Hi ,

after this command: tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.1.tar.gz -C /opt
I got this message:
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

On ubuntu 9.04 I have followed the instructions given in
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html/
You must execute as root.
