Windows Vista, Windows 7 64-bit support

Postby code_g » 10. January 2010 01:13

Hi,

Just a quick question since it looks (to me) like web site doesn't answer it: Does XAMPP (specifically Apache, MySQL, PHP) work reliably under 64-bit Vista or 7? I'm running 1.7.3 on 32-bit Vista without problems but I'm not sure whether I should be recommending it to people using 64-bit.

Thanks,

Mattias

Who could promise that something works for sure or not  - I for myself have been running Xampp 1.71 on 64-bit Win 7 (Ultimate) without probs, but couldn't get mysql running on a Xampp 1.73 installation, at least so far --

So why don't you or anyone else for that matter give it a try? IMHO 64-bit really makes a big difference in performance.

I have been using 1.7.3 for a few weeks on my Vista 64-bit system without problems. I also have Windows 7 Ult 64-bit running in VirtualBox, and 1.7.3 installs and runs just fine there as well. I just checked now, so I could be sure it hadn't gone south on me :)

BTW, I'm doing a series of articles on my blog about WAMPS, and XAMPP is the first on the list. Please check it out and give me some feedback.
