MySQL won't start after changing datadir

Postby freespooky » 13. January 2010 22:10

Hi, I'm new to this and I've searched the forums for hours without success. I previously (and still do) had xampp working fine on an XP system with my datadir on an external drive.

I have just installed xampp under windows 7 and the installation seems to go ok and it works until I change the datadir to point to my external drive whereupon MySQL fails to start. This is what I find in mysql.err:

100113 21:08:49 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled.
C:\xampp\mysql\bin\mysqld.exe: Table 'mysql.plugin' doesn't exist
100113 21:08:49 [ERROR] Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run mysql_upgrade to create it.
100113 21:08:50 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 46409
100113 21:08:50 [ERROR] Fatal error: Illegal or unknown default time zone 'Europe/London'

I cannot find a solution to this and would appreciate any help.

many thanks

I get the same problem (except I haven't changed the data directory). I fixed it by removing that entry from "xampp\mysql\bin\my.ini". What my timezone is now set to though I have no idea! I only use it for local development anyway - so it doesn't really matter in my case.
