Merry Christmas with a new XAMPP

Postby Oswald » 24. December 2009 09:49

Merry Christmas and a very happy new year to all of you.

We're proud to announce two new XAMPP versions for Windows and Linux today. In both versions we updated Apache to 2.2.14, MySQL to 5.1.41, PHP to 5.3.1, Perl to 5.10.1, phpMyAdmin to 3.2.4, and OpenSSL to 0.9.8l. An updated version for Mac OS X will follow soon, but currently the Apache refuses to perform his Xmas duty on a Mac.

Both downloads and more details on the specific platform's XAMPP project page.

To the XAMPP team:

Happy Holidays!

Do you intend to provide an installation module for Windows Server 2003/2008?
Would you help somebody make the XAMPP stack work on a Windows Server for a fee?

I am thinking about purchasing a machine running Small Business Server 2008.

Regards,

I am not sure what ETanefo means. XAMPP works perfectly fine on any Windows Server.
Just don't install IIS to avoid confusion and messing-up things.
I have it running on several machines running:
Windows 2000 Server
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition
Windows Server 2008 Standard.

On 2008, for convenience, just change the desktop icon for the XAMPP Control Panel to run as administrator.
To do so, right-click the icon, select Properties, and click the Advanced button on the Shortcut tab.
Then check the box for Run as administrator and OK your way out.

O, and don't forget to open that poor excuse for a firewall in 2008.

Is there going to be another version of XAMPP coming out soon? There's a new version of Apache and MySQL, and a new version of PHP is on the horizon.

I second that. Is there a tentative date for the next release? The PHP version (5.3.1) in XAMPP 1.7.3 is incompatible with Mediawiki due to a PHP bug, which has been fixed http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=50394.

There's a new PHP version out (5.3.2), as well as a new MySQL (5.1.44), and maybe some others that I don't know of. Updates soon?

We really need an update soon; the Apache version that comes with XAMPP has a major security flaw. (See http://www.thewhir.com/web-hosting-news ... ws_Version.)
