Mercury under XAMPP 1.7.2

Postby sj22 » 28. October 2009 23:51

How do I configure Mercury under XAMPP. Under XAMPP control panel, I click on Admin and nothing comes up. I am installing Group office and need to setup the SMPT Server information, user info, authentication etc.

Thanks

Is Mercury started and showing a green running indication in the XAMPP Control Panel (XCP)?

Look in the notification area of your task bar for the Mercury icon after starting and when you click on Admin..., after Mercury is started, it should open Mercury for configuring.

In the MercuryMail folder in xampp there is a mercury.hlp and a setup.hlp file.

They also have a very useful web site with a forum.

Hi Izzy,
it shows as the service running - but there are no icons in the task bar - only the xampp control panel icon.

What does this mean exactly?

Is the running indication green?

If there is a tick in the Svc box, click on the Stop button then try and remove the tick, then click on the Start button again.

BTW a service is not a component but an NT Service which start a component when you reboot your PC.

So is the Mercury component showing a green running indication after you remove the tick in the Svc box and click on the Start button?

You should then be able to click on the Admin... button and see an icon in the tray left of the XCP icon, which when clicked on opens the Mercury configuration window or it may even open the configuration window automatically...

...open the MercuryMail folder find and double click on the mercury.exe file if you don't understand what to do above or it fails again to put an icon in the tray for some reason - running the exe file should open the configuration window of Mercury.

There must be an issue with the Vista TaskBar or your installation of XAMPP as I can't replicate your problem as no matter what I do I get an icon in the system tray (notification area of the TaskBar) and when I click on the icon the Mercury configuration window opens.

If you right click on the TaskBar is there a Properties item in the context menu?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/The-taskbar-overview
If so then click on it and make sure that the item Hide inactive icons box is not ticked.

Because Mercury is running as an NT (Vista) Windows Service then after a reboot the icon should be visible in the tray next to all the other icons loaded at boot time.
