New XAMPP 1.7.2 for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux

Postby Oswald » 11. August 2009 10:12

I'm proud to announce two big news today: First, the new XAMPP with PHP 5.3.0 is finally released and allows everyone the experience of this new PHP version, and secondly, congratulations and many thanks to Carsten Wiedmann, who took over the responsibility for the Windows version. Carsten was able to simplify the Windows version by replacing the installer by a self-extracting archive without losing the ease-of-use of XAMPP.

In all versions we updated Apache (2.2.12), MySQL (5.1.37), PHP (5.3.0), phpMyAdmin (3.2.0.1), plus minor updates of some libraries and tools.

Thank you very well for this release.

But there is a flaw in MySQL my.cnf configuration.
If you want to use InnoDB Tables and therefore uncomment the InnoDB settings, MySQL
will not start anymore. (on OSX throwing this useless Error Message: "Operation could not be completed. (XAMPPErrorDomain error 1.)").

The error results from the deprecated config setting innodb_log_arch_dir. Since MySQL 5.1.21 the DB won't even start with this entry. This setting/line should be completely deleted. For more infos take a google ride, you will find lots like this one: http://vanillacloud.com/2009/04/wampser ... parameters

Almost the same holds true for the skip-bdb setting.
Maybe these should be removed in the next XAMPP release, to save some people some time.

Regards, Chris

Would it be possible to create an updated XAMPP 1.7.4 for Windows?

with the latest:
Apache 2.2.15
PHP 5.3.2
MySQL 5.1.48
PHPMyAdmin 3.3.4

and also add the following to the XAMPP 1.7.4 package for Windows?
APC 3.1.3p1,
eAccelerator 1.0svn412
MemCached 1.2.1.0

It would be really nice having both APC 3.1.3p1 (Alternative PHP Cache) and MemCached 1.2.1.0 added to the XAMPP 1.7.4 package for Windows, and also have APC and MemCached added to the XAMPP Control Panel.
