Trying to host a site with Xampp

Postby sharpnova » 06. October 2009 13:19

I own a domain name.

Before formatting my computer, I had my DNS (godaddy) pointing to the IP of my computer. I had a stable installation of Xampp and everything was working fine.

I formatted, re-installed Xampp. My IP didn't change.

I copied and pasted the VirtualHosts section of the old httpd.conf into the new one, making sure the directory path matched the new directory structure.

I can view my own localhost, but others are unable to view my website.

I am using Time Warner Cable. I have no router. Just the standard issue SB5120 modem, so there was no need to enable a DMZ or anything.

What am I forgetting to do? Is there something else in httpd.conf or php.ini I need to modify so sites will be visible to others?

Did you configure the Windows firewall?

I have never had to do that before.

I did though. I forwarded 80, 8000, and 8080. But it made no difference.

When I used to use a router I'd set up a DMZ, but I don't have a router now so I thought everything would work instantly.

[Resolved]

I went into services.msc and disabled windows firewall.

I don't quite remember having to do that before but it's possible.

It fixed the issue.

Thanks for your help.
