Mercury shows no errors but doesn't seem to send emails

I wanted to enable the mail function on my local web site. So I downloaded and installed the xampp-win32-1.7.2.exe thinking the Mercury was what I needed. The sending email function didn't show any more errors but I still didn't receive any email I sent for testing purpose. Could somebody tell me if any configuration needed for the Mercury before it would work?

MercuryMail may not be what you need to send email messages from within a php script - a bit like "using a sledge hammer to crack a nut".

Do an Advanced forum search in the Forum: XAMPP for Windows for Keyword: sendmail for some helpful results.
