XAMMP and Jooma

Postby Beejay1701 » 04. September 2009 18:15

Hello there,
I am new to all this and please try to use simple words, my programming skills started and stopped with BASIC.

I am trying use JOOMLA1.5. I initially ran XAMPP1.7.2 but found out from the Joomla Forums that the PHP 5.3 and Joomla don't work well together. so I removed everything and tried again bit with XAMPP1.7.1. This Looked better when I installed Joomla by when I got partway through it told me that it could not connect with the SQL database.

I have been told by someone on the Joolma Forums that I need to set up a SQL database first using phpmyadmin or SQL Console ( I don't know what they are?). There is no mention of this in any of the documentation I have read.

What's going on, I thought that XAMPP installed everything just right with no messing about afterwards.

Please help, I have a headache starting and can't afford to pull out any more hair.

Thanks in advance

I thought that XAMPP installed everything just right with no messing about afterwards.

We can't install any databases and tables for each scripts which are exits around the world (because we can't know whith databases and tables each software needs). But we install and configure a full working MySQL server for you. Just use it.

And it's the part from a software author, to explain its users how to setup the database server for its software.

There is no mention of this in any of the documentation I have read.

So maybe make a bugreport at the Joolma project, because their manual have not enough informations to install this software?

that I need to set up a SQL database first using phpmyadmin or SQL Console ( I don't know what they are?)

You can find phpMyAdmin at http://localhost/phpmyadmin/.

Just for info:

Mark Dexter defines PHP 5.3 Support as one Goal for the next stable Joomla Release (v1.5.15).

The penny Drops.

phpMyAdmin is already installed with XAMPP.

Thank you Wiedmann
