Apache Service does not start

Postby sifar786 » 23. July 2009 23:29

Hi,

I have loaded the latest stable XAMPP version. Have gone thru install process. All the services have started except Apache. In the XAMPP control panel, tried Starting it again, but shows the port 80 is Busy. The Event log says Error 0x1 in Event viewer.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Date: 7/24/2009
Time: 3:44:19 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SIFAR
Description:
The Apache2.2 service terminated with service-specific error 1 (0x1).

checked this by running apache from command prompt. Got following error:
C:\xampp\apache\bin>apache
(OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port)
is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

On clicking STatus button in XAMPP Control panel, it shows STATE as 0 for Apache and others 1.

Please note that i had WAMP server installed earlier which i have already uninstalled and also disabled all its services in SCM. But still Apache is not able to start.

My port 80 is being used by my internet connection, so even if i close my connection, apache does not seem to grab the port.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening....

Run C:\xampp\xampp-portcheck.exe and see what is occupying the ports XAMPP uses then correct the problem by removing or configuring the hogs to use other ports - Skype and IIS are the main culprits.

Do a forum search to find out how to change the XAMPP ports if required.

Oh i already disabled alternative connection to use in Skype last night, though the real culprit was IIS Admin occupying ports 80 & 443....

Thanks for the reply...
