Access Xampp remotely on LAN(DHCP) using host name

Postby albundy » 04. July 2009 13:16

Hello,
I have Xampp on LAN for local use only, DHCP is on.
Is it possible to somehow access the server using the host name?, e.g.: \\HostName\xampp or Http://HostName/xammp ?

Regards,

:?:
let me rephrase it :
Is it possible to access Xampp remotely using the name of the host machine(i.e: Vista-PC) and NOT by its dynamic IP address(192.168.1.10x)?
e.g:
\\Vista-PC\Xampp or http://Vista-PC/Xampp

What do you want to do. Do you want to Disable all access or do you want to enable some access?

If you want to enable access from outside your Network (assuming from your IP that you are using a router) then you need to enable Portforwarding in your Router and either use your IP assigned to your Router from your ISP or use some sort of DynamicDNS service (like DynDNS).

I have access enabled, inside my local network and I want to keep it that way.
but, since the IP is changing(DHCP enabled), I would like my Xampp host to have some kind of a domain name,
without using external services such as DynDNS, so I could access it more easily on my Local Area Network.

thanx 4 the help.

OK, so you just want access inside your LAN, not outside. Then forget DynDNS, this would be for outside access.

Normally it should be possible in a LAN to access the other computer by it's Hostname. Syntax would be http://hostname/xampp
Why didn't you just try it?

Well.. I did, but i got a 404 error. (page not found)
so I thought I might need to configure something for this to work, and that is why i came to you guys.

Btw,
both host and client are on the same workgroup.

What happens if you just open http://hostname (without xampp)?

Could you please post the file xampp\apache\logs\access.log

hello..

can u please help me with xampp
my problem is when i type "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" then m successfully able to see welcome page of xampp..
its working fine ...but its working only on my laptop on which it is installed.
i mean others cant access the files in my xampp that i want to publish.
like if i try to type my public ip address on my mobile , i dont get any result. cant see the site.
as if i typed some wrong address...firewall is also off. am using internet via bluetooth (tethering) via my android phone.
dynamic ip is enabled.
ipv6 using.

kindly help me in enabling access across network...like anyone with my public ip should be able to see what m publishing/hosting.
n i did changed in http-d.conf file too makin "allow from all"
