.php3 extension

I just installed XAMPP v1.7.1 . When I place my *.php3 files in the htdocs folder and open them up all I see are my lines of code. If I change the extension to .php they open up properly. Is there a setting I need to change that allows me to use the extension of *.php3?

As an update? Lite/Full? Installer/Exe/Zip?

From the config file, the .php3 extension should work with 1.7.1.
