Please help! How to install PEAR with XAMPP.

First of all XAMPP is the best! Without XAMPP I would have turn grey a long time ago.

This is my problem and I have posted this question in the PEAR forum but no body has responded, this is my last hope.

I posting this hear because I am thinking maybe someone here has done this before and can help.

Until today I have never heard about a script or application called PEAR.
Last I know PEAR was something you eat!

I have been using XAMPP 1.7.1 for local testing. Now I need to have PEAR because I have to run an e-mail/log in system that processes e-mail.

Since I don't know what PEAR is and how to install it, I am completely at a stand still or dead end.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and Dreamweaver CS3 with XAMPP 1.7.1.

I have read the PEAR manual but don't really get it.

Is there any tutorials/help or any body that can spare me some information to get this thing running. Anything at all for the novice.

I have tried all I can, the truth is I don't know what the hell I'm dong.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

XAMPP is working well for me, so how do I know pear is working, what do I type?

Okay I will and see what happens.

However, I was under the impression that you needed to make some configuration to the php.ini file.

Or there is a url that you typ to confirm PEAR is working.

I will give it a try and see what happens.

OK, if PEAR is installed as part of XAMPP, it's my understanding that using the following line in a PHP script:

require_once "DB.php";

would find and include the file DB.php, which is supposed to be included within PEAR.

And yet when I try to run the code, I get the following error message:

Warning: require_once(DB.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\htdocs\wda2-winestore\index.php on line 19

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'DB.php' (include_path='.;C:\xampp\php\PEAR') in C:\xampp\htdocs\wda2-winestore\index.php on line 19

Or am I just not reading this correctly?
