phpMyAdmin password

I didn't like the version of phpMyAdmin that was included with XAMPP by default and assumed that I could just overwrite the folder to change it. Unfortunately it now asks me for a username and password for phpMyAdmin and I don't know what that should be . I have tried root with no pass but It says access denied.

Any help please.
