Apache started, running and... not responding

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Apache started, running and... not responding

Postby G0DLIKE » 03. June 2009 11:46

Well I couldn't imagine WHAT to search for with this problem, so, sorry but I open a thread for this.
It's probably a lame thread but I am not a real pro, just starting deal with Apache now.

So, XAMPP says it's ready and running, if I check the status it says: apache state 1, service 1, start 0, thread 0, 0p 0 port 80.
I REALLY don't know where to dig now.

System is: Win 5.1 build 2600 platform 2 service pack 3.
XAMPP control panel 2.5 (9 May 2007).

Thanks for help!

What do you mean by not responding?

So in the XCP Apache and MySQL are both showing the green running indication?

What do you see when you type http://localhost in your browser?

What do you see when you type http://127.0.0.1 in your browser?

Have you recently upgraded or installed anything from Microsoft either manually or automatically?

Q&A so I can try and troubleshoot your issue.

I see a failed connection in both cases, this is why I really don't know where to look at.
Could it be a firewall problem? But then I cannot understand why I can navigate freely.

Lets try that again as I did not see any answers that would help me understand your issue.
I have made it easier for you to perhaps correctly respond:

Q1. What do you mean by "not responding" in your topic title?
A1.

Q2. So in the XCP Apache and MySQL are both showing the green running indication?
A2.

Q3. What do you see when you type http://localhost in your browser?
A3. (Paste error message)

Q4. What do you see when you type http://127.0.0.1 in your browser?
A4. (Paste error message)

Q5. Have you recently upgraded or installed anything from Microsoft either manually or automatically?
A5.

Q6. What do you mean by "But then I cannot understand why I can navigate freely?
A6.

You can try and disable your firewall or ZoneAlarm etc. temporarily and test access again.

Check the xampp\apache\logs\error.log file just after you try to access the XAMPP Welcome Page in your browser.

Also clear your browser's cache often when working at local level.

Q1. What do you mean by "not responding" in your topic title?
A1. OK, sorry for that, I thought it wasn't that difficult in first instance.
The answer is that FF gives the usual screen of when you contact an inhexistent website or the website does not answer.

Q2. So in the XCP Apache and MySQL are both showing the green running indication?
A2. Ye both running.

Q3. What do you see when you type http://localhost in your browser?
A3. I see the usual screen, as said above.
It's in italian, if you like it, here it is:
Connessione fallita

And the usual button: RETRY.

Q4. What do you see when you type http://127.0.0.1 in your browser?
A4. Identical as at Q3.

Q5. Have you recently upgraded or installed anything from Microsoft either manually or automatically?
A5. Of course WinUpdate is always running so I may have updated a lot of Win components.
The problem is that I can in NO WAY know what is going wrong and here is why: we (company) had problems with our internet provider and were without connection for more than one month.
I was working to set up our website, ex novo, at the time, but then I stopped of course and when connection came back I updated the system, without taking a backup of course.

Q6. What do you mean by "But then I cannot understand why I can navigate freely?
A6. Because if there is some problem on door 80, why I can navigate normally? OK this is a stupid question, of course because when I navigate I send requests outside and Apache is instead receiving requests. Sorry for my noobyness.

Ye I will try this immediately.

Check the xampp\apache\logs\error.log file just after you try to access the XAMPP Welcome Page in your browser.
OK I'll try this before disabling firewalls and see if I can understand where is the problem.

Also clear your browser's cache often when working at local level.
Mh I think this was already done a couple of times since the problem showed.
I also tried with Explorer, after FF, but same problem

Thank you for your help man.
I'll be back shortly.
Sorry if I didn't answer yesterday but working time was over and I went home.

Check the Listen line in your httpd.conf file looks like this:
Listen 80

Change if it is not and then save the file and restart Apache.

Also delete your browser's cache again before testing.

OK solved: localhost:90 works :|
I guess I only set it back to 80 and everything should be ok.
Sorry to have let you lose time man, and thanks again.
