New RedHat 9 install

Postby Dave » 10. November 2003 21:32

I am building a new server with RH9 and would like your recomendation on what to install to best suit an XAMPP install.

I noticed two previous posts having to do with an RH9 fix:

http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=775

Is this still applicable. Also, is RH9 the best RH version for this.

Thank you for your help,

Dave

Would you do just a minimal install on RH 9 or are there other packages you would add to the install?

Hi Dave!

Minimal installation is enough! (I assume minimal install includes awk) Please check this out. Simple call awk in a shell. XAMPP needs that command.

Only if you would like to use a XAMPP upgrade you also need the patch command installed. As far as I know patch isn't included in a minimal installation. But I may be wrong. There are so many distributions.

Greetings :)

Preferred Distro

I wanted to thank you for your help. The install of XAMPP on the new RH 9.0 server went better than expected. :D

I have had good success with Redhat, however I am concerned about their new licensing:

Do you have a preferred distro to use with XAMPP?

Thank you again for your help,

Dave
