New XAMPP for Windows and Linux

Postby Oswald » 23. December 2008 17:11

Just in time for Christmas: After the usual 2-week beta test phase, we can now announce the new "final" XAMPP version for public downloading.

In both versions we updated Apache (2.2.11), MySQL (5.1.30), PHP (5.2.8) and phpMyAdmin (3.1.1). The Linux version also contains the new MySQL storage engine PBXT (1.0.07-rc).

With this version our support of PHP 4 ends and from this version on PHP 4 is no longer shipped with XAMPP. After PHP 4 was officially no longer supported since the end of 2007 this was just a matter of time.

On the other hand XAMPP now supports the brand-new MySQL 5.1 database generation. If you're upgrading from MySQL 5.0 please take a look at MySQL's official Upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 and Monty's critical "Oops, we did it again".

Updated versions for Mac OS X and Solaris will follow shortly.

Get the downloads and more details on the specific platforms XAMPP project page.

Oh, and yes: Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2009! :)

Dear Oswald,

I found that you put on new beta of XAMPP, it's 1.7.1, great.

I also found that php 5.2.9 just release, would you add php 5.2.9 in to next beta version of XAMPP?

Why you guys still pack the deprecated WinMySQLAdmin tool with the latest XAMPP distribution? It is the source of XAMPP ERROR: MySql service not started [-1] for newcomer!!!

WinMySQLAdmin has been deleted from the xampp\mysql\bin folder and has been replaced with phpMyAdmin in the Control Panel Admin... button in the next version 1.7.1 release due out soon.

You can also delete the 3 WinMySQLAdmin files in the xampp\mysql\bin folder of the current release 1.7.0 without doing any harm.

Obviously you run the Linux version on your Linux server... but if this is a commercial hosted server it already has the stack. For your Windows machine you will, of course, install the Win version. What were you thinking? Or did I not understand the question?
