Apache service started but localhost not working in xampp

Hi,

As i am new to php. I have a small issue while working with xampp. As i have installed xampp but the localhost is not working. When i start the apache service from xampp control panel the service is starting but the localhost is not working. Can anyone provide the solution for this issue. Thank you in advance...

Always provide your OS and which version of XAMPP you have installed when requesting support.


Can you access by typing http://127.0.0.1 in your browser?

I am using Windows XP with SP2 and the XAMPP version is xampp-win32-1.6.6a-installer

My localhost is not working but where as when i open type my system's IP address in the browser its working...but why my localhost is not working.

Can you access by typing http://127.0.0.1 in your browser?

Anything related in the server's error log?

Check your Windows Hosts file has this line as the first uncommented line:
127.0.0.1 localhost
