XAMPP Problems

Postby doheja07 » 20. April 2009 21:26

Hi. I recently installed xampp on my Windows Vista laptop. For some reason, however, I can't access http://localhost/. I have been seaching the internet and have tried what I could. It is not being blocked by the windows firewall. I don't have another firewall. I have tried turning off uac and running the program as administrator. I have tried to run portcheck to see if port 80 is being used by something else, but when I try to run in, I get a message that says "script runtime error: file name or class name not found during automation opperation." Could anybody offer any suggestions on how I can fix this? When I installed it, it said there was some error with apache I needed to fix, but I figured it corrected itself since everything seems to be running fine. I don't know is posting my apache error log will help in solving the problem, but I am including it just in case.

Can you access http://127.0.0.1 and if so what do you see?

With Vista try right click on xampp-portcheck.exe and select to run the program as an administrator.

BTW your error.log file contains no [error] messages only [notice] messages of an informative nature and looks to be fine with Apache having no difficulties starting or shutting down.
The [warn] notice is generated when you use the XAMPP Control Panel to Stop Apache and is quite normal.

OK, you have an issue with the Windows hosts file.

Open your text editor Notepad by right clicking on it and selecting to run as an administrator.

Now open C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file in Notepad.

Edit this line:
::1 localhost
So it looks like this"
# ::1 localhost

Save the file and try http://localhost again.
