remote access

relative newbie.
have apache running fine in local mode and applications built and tested.
now wish to login to apache server remotely.
host is windows xp home, adsl router.
have set up dynamic dns with 3rd party provider.
browse to external ip address of router just times out.
inside the router firewall everything ok.
placing host in dmz did not help.
