Problem installing on Ubuntu

Postby kevin_hill54 » 25. March 2009 12:06

Hi

I have installed XAMPP onto my Ubuntu 8.04 pc and received the following

kevin@kevin-desktop:~$ /opt/lampp/lampp start
You need to start XAMPP as root!
kevin@kevin-desktop:~$ sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.7...
XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5)...
XAMPP: Error 139! Couldn't start Apache!
XAMPP: Starting diagnose...
XAMPP: Sorry, I've no idea what's going wrong.
XAMPP: Please contact our forum http://community.apachefriends.org/f/
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...
XAMPP for Linux started.
kevin@kevin-desktop:~$

Is this a problem caused by the previously installed version of MYSQL Server?
Should I remove the MYSQL server installed on the computer and which is the best way to go about it?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Problem under Ubuntu-"It Works page"

The XAMPP installed fine under Ubuntu (/opt/lampp). It also starts without any errors. However, when I type "localhost" in firefox it displays "It Works" page. Could someone tell me how I can get to the XAMPP main page (the orange colored page with phpmyadmin and other options)?

It also starts without any errors

Why "also without"? The thread starter have an error message during the Apache start...
