Which version of Windows?

Have tried opening port 3306 in your firewall or temporarily disabling the firewall and try again to start MySQL?

Is there a tick in the Svc box next to MySQL?

Untick the Svc box and answer the questions then try again to Start MySQL.

To read the Windows error go to the Event Viewer under start>Administrative Tools.

Also check the xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues.

Try starting MySQL with xampp\mysql_start.bat file and see if there is any message why MySQL can't start and paste it here.

I personally don't like the installer version and always use the EXE (7zip) version.

I have just had similar issues with MySQL in this thread which you can read or skip to the last page which details the reasons that sometimes after uninstalling then reinstalling there can be issues.

Thanks for posting back with your solution as it does help others searching the forums.

Good luck and now enjoy XAMPP.

it really looks as there is a bug in the zip installer , it's the second time i am confronted with a non default root password( a password=''), i fixed it anyhow.
