Hm, that's not what you can read in the install instructions. Please follow them carefully.

My Linux system is Ubuntu 8.10 and I try to install and run xampp on a new hard-disk with adress: /media/Win500.
I used the command: tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.tar.gz -C /media/Win500. (must it be on /opt ?)
leif@leli:/media/Win500/lampp$ sudo /media/Win500/lampp/lampp start

I got the following message:
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.7...

XAMPP: Another web server daemon is already running.

XAMPP: Another MySQL daemon is already running.

XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...

XAMPP for Linux started.
What am I doing wrong?

It must be exactly the command from the homepage. (that's the reason you can read this command there...)
