Cannot start MySQL

Postby DanielCarrera » 07. January 2009 19:04

MySQL hates me. For some reason the MySQL server daemon does not want to start:

Code: Select all
$ sudo ./lampp startmysql
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...
$ sudo ./lampp stopmysql
XAMPP: XAMPP-MySQL is not running.
$

I do not have another MySQL server running. Other than XAMPP I do not have another copy of MySQL on this computer. In addition, 'ps aux' shows nothing:

Code: Select all
$ ps aux | grep sql
daniel   12709  0.0  0.0   3236   804 pts/1    R+   18:55   0:00 grep sql

All the files are owned by www-data. In addition, Apache and PHP seem to work fine. I am running Ubuntu 8.10 on an Intel Mac:

Code: Select all
% uname -a
Linux daniel-laptop 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I tried running /opt/lamp/bin/mysql.server start but that didn't help either.

Code: Select all
% sudo ./mysql.server start
Starting MySQL
................................... *

The little star ( * ) is red, which I assume means "bad". After running this command I still have no MySQL server running.

I hope that someone here has an idea of what to do.
