Hello and welcome Attridge.

I'm not sure where you want to go nor which user you're referring to.

By "security" do you mean http://localhost/security/index.php? If so, I don't know why you'd need a user and password for that when done from the localhost, ie the PC running XAMPP.

If you're referring to MySQL, when you say you made a new account, you mean one different from the user "root"? If so, root still has its [blank] password and you can gain access using that?

i receive the same Access forbidden when I try to access Security for the main XAMPP for Windows page..
Opens a new window "http://localhost/security/lang.php?en"
Using windows 2000 server Sp4..

Now I did had MySQL 5.1.* and PHP installed prior to installing XAMPP, could that have had some unwanted
effect for XAMPP? Those were uninstalled prior to installing XAMPP

Postby el-quds » 12. June 2009 09:25

I hope this will help cause i suffered from this

not an expert but i guess this solved my problem and might be useful for some

I have xampp 1.7.1

every time i try to go to security i got the message of

" Access forbidden!

Error 403 "

her is what i did

I opened the file ...\\\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-xampp.conf

useing wordpad and went to the line
</IfModule>
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from localhost

changed this to

Deny From none
Allow from All

and saved the file , then i restarted xampp through Xampp control panel Application
stop and start function
and it worked and opened the security page very well
I then entered my passwords for all channels and when finished i went to the mentioned file and returned every thing as it was...

Now it works fine

thnks
