DocRoot switcher/selector App

Postby Neonascent » 01. January 2009 09:45

Hi All,
I've been using XAMPP for many years, and always found the process of switching between local projects irritating.

I've written a small (8kb) windows app to allow you to change the current DocRoot in httpd.conf quickly and easily:

You can download it at http://archive.neonascent.net/307

Not sure if this has been done before, but this is my offering - Hope it's helpful!

I hope your app. works better than your link.

This link

redirects to this link
http://blog.neonascent.net/archives/307

which gives Error 404 - Not Found

BTW is this app. open source so I can see exactly what it is doing on/to my server?
I get nervous about unknown apps that have access to my web server.

Apologies for that - my Wordpress has been posting as Private recently for some reason. (so it appeared to be working to me) Link is now working.

I've provided the project source on the download page. Effectively it's just a text file processor with a nice UI.

Personally I can see only a very limited use for this, for example in the 5 years or so I have used XAMPP and much longer for Apache servers in general, I have never changed the default DocumentRoot - never had the need as I use the httpd_vhosts.conf file now if I have a use for other site folders...

...and it really is quite easy to pop the httpd.conf file into a text editor and do whatever edits that are required, but it might come in handy for those who change the DocumentRoot more often than they change their underwear. :)

BTW thanks for the source code as it will make prospective users less apprehensive. ;)
