installed XAMpp on Mandriva 2007.0

I followed the steps in installing the tar package. All is well. When I try to access any of the links on the left side of the home page through my browser, it comes up with a prompt box asking for a username and password. I gave it my userid and password but it will not accept it. I set this up in hopes that I can find some good k-12 templates to use for a CMS server. Can anybody direct me to a solution?
