Guide to Apache, 1st Edition Ed Sawicki, is needed practice?

Postby lse123 » 03. December 2008 05:42

I am self-learn, and read the intro of http://apachebook.alcpress.com/index.html textbook,

Guide to Apache, 1st Edition
Ed Sawicki
ISBN-10: 1418837539 | ISBN-13: 9781418837532 | 500 Pages | © 2008 | Published

I plan reading the whole text, well I do NOT have access to Linux/Unix since I am away from schools, what to do ?

If I run Apache in MAC OS X and up , this is almost like running Apache in Linux ? yes / no differ a lot

A Linux PC how much it cost ? What Applications has mainly (any in webdesign/develop?) ?

If I read the book doing as much as I can theoritically, but not practically , I will benefit any or is needed practical work on exercises absolutelly ?

>A Linux PC how much it cost ?

How much costs any PC?

Linux is free.

If you already have a PC, download any Linux Version (for example Ubuntu, or SuSE Openlinux etc.) and simply install it.

If you dont have a PC, you need to buy one. It may be a used one, go to ebay and get any simple PC.

>What Applications has mainly (any in webdesign/develop?) ?

More than you can think of. Linux (GNU) is a fully equipped Operating System with thousands of tools and software packages.

Just reading a book without applying in practice what you read is a waste of time in my opinion. In theory things always seem simple.. until you try to get them to work and do all those little stupid mistakes one has to go through in the beginning.

Btw you do not need a Linux PC. If you have a PC with Windows installed on it, you can install apache there and it will be pretty much the same for most purposes.
