Error fur Fedora 8 & XAMPP

Irgendwelche Probleme mit XAMPP für Linux? Dann ist hier genau der richtige Ort um nachzufragen.

Version of XAMPP download : xampp-linux-1.6.8a

Version of Linux : Fedora 8

after download the following message display after first attempt in terminal:

[User@localhost~]$ su
password:
[root@localhost username]# tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz -C /opt
tar: xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors


Second attempt relayed the following:

[User@localhost ~]$ su -
[root@localhost ~]# tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz -C /opt
tar: xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

There is no file xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz - either the file name is wrong, or you are looking into the wrong folder (it has been downloaded somewhere else) or the download has failed.

The download is found in user home download, was able to unzip and new folder appeared : lampp (*the old xampp).

Just a speculation, though should the file be moved to somewhere and if so where and how?

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my prob was that after downloading the file,

xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz

I opened terminal and followed command to be exact:

tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.8a.tar.gz -C /opt

This morning I awoke read nobbies post and tried:
tar xvfz /home/user/Download/xamp-linux-1.6.8a.ta.gz -C /opt

SUPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It worked---extracted the file and was able to start xampp.

Thanks Nobbie from a newbie.....lol
