xampplite installation localhost not found

Postby Code Numpty » 25. August 2008 17:50

I wanted xampplite so that I could install Wordpress on my Vista Home Premium laptop. I followed all the instructions and started Apache & MySQL. When I enter http://localhost in IE or Firefox I get 'cannot display page'.

I cannot find any answers to this anywhere.
I also do not have the uninstaller file so am stumped.
Grateful for any pointers.

You executed the setup_xampp.bat?
How do you start Apache and MySQL?
Do you get any Error Messages?

You could try to look in the Apache Logfiles (xampp\apache\logs) for any errormessages, but i think there will be no messages if the servers are not starting up correct.

I confess to really screwing this up now as I couldn't uninstall I've tried to overwrite the original installation.

OK, when you screwed up the installation then stop Apache and MySQL if running, uninstall the service if done and delete the xampp folder. Then install again from beginning. Then we have a basis to talk about.

Do you have any firewalls running? That would explain a lot.

Sorry Glitzi but I don't have the uninstall.exe. It's just not there.

Standards Windows firewall - Apache HTTP server is checked as an exception.

Did i say anything about uninstall.exe? I just said uninstall the services (untick the checkboxes in the control panel if activated).
xampplite is not equipped with an uninstall program as it is not installed. You just have to delete the folder. But if you do this with installed services, you have a problem.

Sorry Glitzi I misunderstood you (and packed up for the night).

Have rebooted this morning, checked no services are running. To delete all files I had to stop xampplite as a process in the task manager too. Started install again from scratch. I followed the instructions from here

http://www.jdavidmacor.com/2007/07/24/how-to-install-wordpress-locally/

I got the directory mismatch warning again.

Try http://localhost/xampp/splash.php 'Cannot display web page'.

Windows Firewall exceptions enables for Apache HTTP server & mysqld. If I turn the firewall off, no difference.

I am going round in circles here and appreciate any help, thanks.
