Port 80 problem Windows Vista

Postby Perceptive1 » 24. July 2008 15:47

I have tried several times to install xampp on my windows vista setup.

Error
Ports 80 or 443 (SSL) already in use. Installing Apache2.2 service failed.

I have carried out instructions for preventing Skype using this port and restarted computer.
I have turned off Virus checking on McAfee for a while. I have checked the port usage using xampp-portcheck.exe as you suggest. still have a problem.

Portcheck gives "System" as the user of port 80.

Control panel allows me to start Apache but does NOT show the word Running with green background.

Any suggestions

IIS is the Microsoft Apache. It stands for Internet Information Services, and works the same as Apache. I'm not sure how to disable it, but it would be in Add or Remove Programs.

Good luck.

Thanks ToXiCaTioN.d

So if I understand this correctly, IIS and Apache are alternatives to do approximately the same thing. Presumably IIS cannot work at the same time as Apache. You can have one or the other but not both at the same time.

I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks again
