local host password and name

I'm a new person to XAMPP and have very limited knowledge about it. I down loaded XAMPP and went to http://localhost/ and was asked for a name and password I tried putting in my administrator ID and password that I use to log on in windows XP and got the Message error '8002801c'

But you didn't start it.

Your error message does not come from Apache, but from IIS from Microsoft. You already have a webserver installed (IIS).

thank you Nobbie, but I'm still in need of a solution, should I remove the other web server and how would I reconises sbd accomplish that also would not http://localhost/ typed in my browser have just used the other server and or why did

Yes of course. You cannot run two applications on the same Port.

You should ask in a microsoft forum how to de-install IIS.
