XAMPP replacement for Solaris

Postby krelvinaz » 27. May 2008 18:06

I am about to start working on this again. Has anyone made any strides in coming up with an XAMPP like package for Solaris 10 Sparc/x86?

The last released version of XAMPP for Sparc/x86 (now removed) worked fine, but is way out of date now.

The blastwave stuff is interesting but not quite the same install and go like packaging.

The ability to untar and go is/was a great feature that Apache Friends came up with, but they apparently have no interest in supporting Solaris.

Coolstack

Postby pawill79 » 08. June 2008 04:54

Check out Coolstack. I too have become dependant on XAMPP for SPARC but b/c of the lack of development I have started merging my software onto Coolstack. It has a great set of phplib extensions and centralizes its AMP install into one directory similar to XAMPP. Supports both SPARC and x86 architectures and supported by SUN. Also has a great forum.

Wish I could have stuck with XAMPP but the support just isn't there for us Solaris folks.

Thanks for the info....

I will create a new zone this afternoon and give it a whirl. Sounds like it might save me a ton of time. Looks better than the other package I was looking at.

Never really could figure out why the support for Xampp Solaris was dropped. I offered funding, server access etc... but NEVER got a response from the developers.

Not as polished as Xampp in the installation process but not far from it.

Took me about an hour after I downloaded the packages.

I created a new Zone and documented each step including customizations that I normally make for my servers... Started up the first time and has SVM support.

Cool...

Hopefully this is a small issue

I know that is not the best place for this question, but I can't seem to find a CoolStack forum. I have been having trouble installing DBI (Perl) on XAMPP (Solaris 8 ) . Since you raved about CoolStack I am testing in on a Solaris 10 sparc server. I am getting the following error in /var/svc/log/network-http\:apache22-csk.log upon startup.

[ Nov 4 16:09:36 Enabled. ]

[ Nov 4 16:09:40 Executing start method ("/opt/coolstack/lib/svc/method/svc-csk apache2 start") ]
ld.so.1: /opt/coolstack/apache2/bin/httpd: fatal: libc.so.1: version `SUNW_1.22.1' not found (required by file /opt/coolstack/apache2/lib/libapr-1.so.0)
ld.so.1: /opt/coolstack/apache2/bin/httpd: fatal: libc.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
Killed

[ Nov 4 16:09:40 Method "start" exited with status 137 ]

Can you point me to a forum or give me a suggestion?

Thank you in advance
