Error importing a 600kb sql file into phpMyAdmin

I am having a nightmare trying to import a small, 600kb sql dump into phpmyadmin. I have tried a zipped file (less than 125kb) and also a straight copy and paste of the dump into phpmyadmin itself. I've no trouble with any other exports/imports so this one baffles me.

All I get if I'm lucky is "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in C:\xampp\phpMyAdmin\libraries\import\sql.php

Why on earth is it crashing trying to import such a small file?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks
