Connection to mysql via terminal

Postby livwest » 05. April 2008 12:42

I'm trying to connect to mysql via the Terminal cmnd-line. The "mysql -u <username> -h <host> -p <password>" yields me nothing of a mysql nature.

I have no problem using phpmyadmin to create databases and tables, but I'd like to poke around using the command line. The whole xampp set is up and running, and I've set the basic security settings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a directory? I can't seem to find it based on the folder structure. I've seen others with this problem. The instructions assume you know where to go on the command line.

@livwest
Maybe my question was not clear:
What can you see (what happens) if you execute the above command?

/Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/bin/mysql -u root -h localhost -p

This location wasn't working initially, before I set security, but I did manage to get it working today. I assumed that I had it wrong, but something I did somewhere got it working. Now all is fine.
