What is the latest version of Xampp that isn't buggy?

Windows XP Media Center, running the zip version.

I installed 1.6.6a and its buggy. WinMySQLadmin Verion 1.4 keeps crashing....

Access violation at address 1002593 in module "LibMySQL.dll" Read of address 0000000.

---

I have version 1.6.0.a - and it has the same version of WinMySQLadmin only everything works.

---

Can someone tell me the latest version of XAMPP that isn't buggy?

Or if your if 1.6.6.a works perfect for you can you tell me if you
A) are running a different version of Windows
B) upgraded from a previous version or
C) used the installer version?

I already searched. I am not asking how to fix the problem, I am asking if anyone knows the latest version that works correctly out of the box.

I need to know what version I can safely recommend to someone with less technically inclined.

I guess I will just start from the 2nd to last and work backwards until I get one that doesn't need tweaked.

Same problem under XP Home

I had great luck installing XAMPP under Win XP Pro then I attempted the install under XP Home. Under the Home OS, I'm getting the same error you are. Now off to search for "access AND violate".

Easy work arround

renaming mysql\bin\winmysqladmin.exe and re zipping is a quick and dirty fix that allows me to send the latest version to a friend that isn't that technical.

I'm not a fan of the MySQL admin tool that comes with Xampp, I much prefer the official MySQL Admin tool:

* the download link is the lower left side as "Download Binaries & Source"
