MySQL does not start in Windows XP

Hello,

I installed the latest version of XAMPP on Win XP SP2. Everything is find, but mysql, which does not star. I see no error messages that could lead into finding out what the problem could be.

Also tried without installer (method b, according to instructions) and the result is the same.

Any ideas?

Seek if there is another mysql server started or installed in your system!

Thanks Joh. Already thought of that. Actually, I did install XAMPP, removed (with the uninstaller) and installed it again. In the first installation mysql worked find. I wonder if the uninstaller is leaving something behind. I did not find a service running and the installation directory I removed completely. Anything else MySQL could have left behind ?
