At least from that file, you can ignore all the notices, because they all look to me (though I'm just guessing because that seems to be the pattern for me) like all of them are telling you that Apache has started and is running fine. The first warning you can also ignore, but I don't know what it means. The error just means that something or someone tried to access your robots.txt page, but it doesn't exist. Other than that, you don't have any errors.

Now, do you have any other subdomains? Does your subdomain folder have a cgi-bin folder in it? How did you set up the subdomain?

I set up the sub-domain how it shows in the last config file that I posted, but it doesn't work.

Did you update the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file? Especially if you're using Vista, you might have to save a hosts file (no extension) to a different folder and then do a copy and paste to override the "security".

But now it's there twice...

# Virtual Hosts
#
# If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
# machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
# use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
# IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
#
# Please see the documentation at
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/>
# for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
#
# You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
# configuration.

#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#
NameVirtualHost *:80

# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for all requests that do not
# match a ServerName or ServerAlias in any <VirtualHost> block.

Holy host file hell!

Postby LooseCannon » 20. December 2007 14:43

I've not followed this thread, but have to say that that's surely one nightmare of a host file.

What does this mean?!...
::1 localhost
# Start of entries inserted by Spybot - Search & Destroy
That's a bona fide software application running?

Other than a Google just now, I know nothing of it. It protects by catching dodgey urls, pointing them at ones local host, hence not going onto the scary internet...?

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. ... Hmm, that should be an interesting translation for some.

spybot search and destroy is the leading spyware protection application.
Can you help me with my sub-domain issue at all?

Sorry, I don't know what to tell you. I don't deal with sub domains, so I don't have any clue what to do. To me, everything looks right, but obviously something isn't.

I got my XAMPP VirtualHosts/Aliases working using
Code: Select all
NameVirtualHost xx.xxx.xx.xx:80

<VirtualHost xx.xxx.xx.xx:80>
    DocumentRoot "D:/server/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost xx.xxx.xx.xx:80>
    ServerName forums.347media.com
    ServerAlias forums.347media.com
    ServerAdmin webmaster@347media.com
    DocumentRoot "D:/server/htdocs/bbs"
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost xx.xxx.xx.xx:80>
    ServerName mail.347media.com
    ServerAlias mail.347media.com
    ServerAdmin webmaster@347media.com
    DocumentRoot "D:/server/htdocs/mail"
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost xx.xxx.xx.xx:80>
    ServerName 347media.com
    ServerAlias 347media.com
    ServerAdmin webmaster@347media.com
    DocumentRoot "D:/server/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>
but I have .htaccess files in each directory.
Forums:
Code: Select all
<Files "config.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>

<Files "common.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} bbs/
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.347media.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://forums.347media.com/$1 [L,R=301]

Mail:
Code: Select all
# AddDefaultCharset   UTF-8
AddType text/x-component .htc

<IfModule mod_php4.c>
  php_flag   display_errors   Off
  php_flag   log_errors   On
  php_value   error_log   logs/errors
  php_value   upload_max_filesize   5M
  php_value   post_max_size   6M
</IfModule>

<IfModule mod_php5.c>
  php_flag   display_errors   Off
  php_flag   log_errors   On
  php_value   error_log   logs/errors
  php_value   upload_max_filesize   5M
  php_value   post_max_size   6M
</IfModule>

<FilesMatch "(\.inc|\~)$">
  Order allow,deny
  Deny from all
</FilesMatch>

Order deny,allow
Allow from all
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} mail/
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.347media.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://mail.347media.com/$1 [L,R=301]

Whenever I type forums.347media.com I get a blank white page with no source code in it when I view the source. This tells me that the .htaccess in xampp is not activated.

I remember the last install of XAMPP I had I needed to TURN on ht.access or something because it was turned off by default.

How do I do that on XAMPP?

Actually, I think your .htaccess file might be the problem.

What happens if you delete everything from it?

If I delete every line from it I can still get to forums.347media.com, but it is still a blank page, but when I visit 347media.com/bbs it goes to the forums.

This means what I think it means; XAMPP is stopping .htaccess from working.
There is nothing wrong with my .htaccess code as you can see.

OK i just uncommented "LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so" and when I go to 347media.com/bbs it redirects me to forums.347media.com, which is good, but for some reason it doesnt go to D:/server:/htdocs/bbs/index.php
I have no idea WHERE it's going to.

[edit]I actually just edited my index.php file in
D:/server/htdocs and put the word "hi" in there and when i go to forums.347media.com I see "hi"
