Type here exactly what you type into your browser's address bar

BTW try restarting Apache to get the error.log to show.

Have a look in the install directory and you can clearly see that install.php does not exists, so why are you still typing that address in your browser - you will get the same error 404 until the cows come home.

http://localhost/phpbb/install/index.php
is correct as I pointed out in a previous post.

You should also be able to just type:
http://localhost/phpbb/install

neither did I say refresh the control panel - I said restart Apache which means stop and then restart Apache.

Default install path for phpBB 3.0 RCx is:
Code: Select all
http://localhost/phpBB3/install/index.php

For phpBB 2.0.x it is:
Code: Select all
http://localhost/phpBB2/install/install.php

First make sure you have the path that goes with the version you try to install... if you have a Domain Name, you can put the Domain Name in the URL instead of "localhost"; eg:
Code: Select all
http://Your_Domain_Name_Here/phpBBx/install/...
