Passing variables into php from the address

Postby LooseCannon » 02. November 2007 10:23

Eg: "http://myDomain.local/default.php?_minc=home"

The variable "home" isn't getting into the php code.

My config and install info: http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=27069

I've faced and dealt with this issue 4 or 5 times in the last few months. Can't remember how I did or find any notes. ... Shameful.

It's related to register_globals? It was such a simple solution. Arrgh!

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: I'm not bothered about the security issues, being a local site, and I have register_globals = On

Does this thread offer any clues for you:

TIP
Write your notes as you go to text files and keep them in one directory location.

Get His Grepship then you can just type a key word and search the text files very rapidly.

Unlike others of this ilk it does not create a text database but actually searches the physical files.

Very useful indeed - I would be lost without it.

PM me if you want more details about it ;)

Thanks. :)

Having seen that thread yesterday, I've just given it a fresh review, as a night's sleep might have helped. :) But I still think it doesn't. :(

That thread seems to relate to variables set within the code. I really want to avoid changing the code we're downloading from our live web site, and just configure the local XAMPP setup to run with that. I have manage that already on 2 PCs and the current laptop (prior to reinstalling onto an encrypted volume yesterday).

So, I'm looking for a server-side fix, not web site code specific. Else, when we update the local/remote/non-www laptop, we'll have another tweak to do each time.

Off topic: In about an hour I've to re-install XAMPP on the laptop to what it was on Monday this week. I've achieved so much this week, it's ironic to be tripped up by something I've resolved before. :x Oh well,,,

Yup, thanks Wiedmann. Been there and as previously, thought I'd sorted it. This time, with "register_globals = On", I still can't pass variables into the code.

No matter, let's park this for now. I have to get the laptop sent offsite and hence had to revert to the config from a few days ago,,, which works. I'll post back if/when I find my mistake.
